# Power it up

It's time to connect your carputer to power, so do that now.

#### Wait a few minutes for your carputer to finish a bit of self-configuration as it boots for the first time.

If you can connect your carputer to your home network with a LAN ethernet cable, do it now.

### <mark style="color:yellow;">Don't do the following right now.</mark>  This is a recommendation for later, when you want to shutdown or turn off your carputer.

<mark style="background-color:red;">**Avoid just turning off you carputer until later when it has been "ruggedized."  Before ruggedization, you should always properly shut it down first with the following command while connected via ssh:**</mark>

1. <mark style="color:green;">`sudo shutdown -h now`</mark>
2. <mark style="background-color:red;">**Wait 10 seconds or so before turning it off.**</mark>
